The Titans at T.C. Williams High School
Opened in 1965, T.C. Williams High School served as the inspiration for the hit movie “Remember the Titans”, the portrayal of the integration of African-American and Caucasian students at TCW in 1971 and the tension that arose within this community.
The movie, starring Denzel Washington, shows how the TCW was able to turn their backs on racism and this showed firmly with the success on the Football field.
Students from more than 80 countries with more than 50 languages attend T.C. Williams High School to date.
The Titan Foundation established by the 1971 State Champions Varsity Football Team, awards deserving seniors with scholarships to continue education.
After major renovations made on the school, the new building is now a 3 story – 461,000 square foot building costing $90 million educating more than 2,500 students from Grade 10 – 12. The school structure also includes a 1,200-seat auditorium, a 3,000-seat gymnasium, a planetarium and a parking deck with 416 spaces. The school also maintains a sustainable technology consisting of a 450,000 gallon underground cistern collecting and storing rainwater from the roof, then using it in toilet flushing, air conditioning operations and irrigation.
